After seriously struggling with See You at the Pole this year, I decided to go ahead and fully participate for another year. I did feel a lot better when I realized I was not the only one who is frustrated with what SYATP has become.
I encouraged my students to get to school at 7am for the prayer. I have attended in the past, but decided to stay away this year. I do wish I had done like Brian and went to the Middle School. I heard later that unlike the high school, no youth leaders, teachers, or parents were there. This is probably is a good thing, but I should have been there to support them.
While I got mixed reports on how the morning prayer time went, the evening worship service was incredible. 12 different youth groups came together and this service exceeded all of my expectations. I was asked to speak at the end and send the students away encouraged to shine bright in a school full of darkness.
So, I got home Wednesday night with mixed emotions about the day. One thing was clear though. We can take a thing as simple as SYATP, change it so much that is does not even resemble the original, and God will still take it and use it for good.
